Bonalu & Pallevanta 2026
About the Event
Bonalu is one of Telangana's most beloved folk festivals - a joyful thanksgiving offered to Goddess Mahakali, celebrated with devotion, color, and community spirit. GTA Utah invites all members to come together for a traditional Bonalu & Pallevanta celebration right here in Utah, keeping our culture alive across thousands of miles from home.
Bonalu is devotion. Pallevanta is togetherness. Together, they are Telangana.
What is Bonalu & Pallevanta?
During Bonalu, women carry pots of rice cooked with jaggery and milk (the Bonam) on their heads as an offering to Goddess Mahakali. The festival is marked by Ghatam, Potharaju, and the collective spirit of community prayer. Pallevanta is the beloved Telangana tradition of communal outdoor cooking - families and neighbors cooking together in the open, turning a meal into a celebration of togetherness.
